    Today, the New York University's Public Relations and Corporate Communications blog featured a post on Helio Fred Garcia's Master Practitioner Series workshop at NYU last Friday, November 30. The workshop's topic of discussion was "Persuasion 3.0: What the Human Brain Makes Possible."

    In the workshop, Garcia drew from his book "The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively" as he discussed how communicators can win hearts and minds by understanding where they reside, not in our cardio-vascular muscles but in our brain. The NYU blog post features several videos of Garcia giving his workshop to 40 students, professors, and interested individuals.

    The latest issue of the "Strategy and Leadership" Journal features an article by Helio Fred Garcia called "Leadership Communications: Planning for the Desired Reaction." In the article, Garcia discusses the need for leaders to take communication as a critical leadership skill.

    "Effective communication requires mastering a discipline with two key skills--gaining a current and thorough knowledge of the expectations and needs of audience and understanding how to craft a message to achieve a desired reaction," Garcia writes. "Then it requires saying and doing all that is necessary--and only what is necessary---to provoke that desired reaction. It also requires understanding the absolutely predictable intended and unintended consequences of words, silence, inaction and action."
